Program:
Saturday: arrival in afternoon
Sunday: visit the manifestation “spring flowers and colors” at the Minoprio Foundation in Vertemate con Minoprio.In the morning guided visit to the Foundation’s park (camellias, tulips 35.000, violets 10.000). The afternoon is dedicated to children with school laboratories and a gardening lesson, painting and decoupage for adults.
Monday: The guided tour takes you to Tremezzo, Visit of Villa Carlotta in neoclassical style with the botanic garden (over 500 species and varieties beside the annuals plants; orange-tree pergolas, camellias, southern tree-ferns, palms, tropical plants, cactus, the bamboo collection and the famous rhododendrons and azaleas flowering). Late morning we reach by boat Bellagio.Free time for lunch. In the early afternoon guided tour to the gardens of Villa Melzi with the elegant terrace . Giant rhododendrons and azaleas cover the green slopes. we reach by boat Varenna , Villa Monastero. The park is therefore interesting for its historical importance and for its wealth of plant species; rows of cypresses, cedars and evergreen hedges.Particularly interesting are the exotic arboreal species; african palms, agaves, oleanders and the collection of citrus trees.
Thursday: free day.
Wednesday: half day in a guided visit to the remains of the original botanical garden called “The blackbird’s garden in Musso. I was one of the most striking and characteristic gardens in Europe, between 1858 and 1883. Nowadays, the garden is neglected but it keeps the original structure about the old paths, the steps, the cave.
Thursday: arrival to Lenno and transfer in boat to “punta Balbianello”. Guided visit of “Villa Balbianello” and its garden and terraces overlooking the lake. Return to Menaggio. Break for lunch, in the early afternoon guided visit to “Villa Vigoni” and its romantic garden at Loveno.
Friday: free day.
Saturday morning: departure.
